ROME, Ga. -- The Covenant volleyball team was defeated twice on Saturday on the final day of the Berry Invitational. The Lady Scots fell in five sets to Washington & Lee (20-25, 25-16, 25-15, 22-25, 15-13) in the first match before being defeated 3-0 (25-22, 25-16, 25-22) by host Berry in the finale.

Covenant drops to 1-2 on the year with the losses.

MATCH ONE: Washington & Lee 3, Covenant 2

Covenant took the opening set, but then dropped the next two to fall behind 2-1 in the match. After claiming the fourth set, the Lady Scots looked poised for five-set victory with a late lead in the final frame, but the Generals rallied to take the set and the match.

Ginny Moore led all players with 15 kills to go along with 15 digs. Schuyler Moore had 35 assists and seven digs, while Jessica Seehorn added 10 kills and 11 digs in the loss. Morgan Opgenorth chipped in seven kills, five digs and three block assists and Mariah Corney contributed nine digs.

Covenant pulled away from the Generals in the first set for a 25-20 victory. The Lady Scots had 11 kills in the set for a hitting percentage of .200, the best percentage of any set during the match. But Washington & Lee rallied to take the next two sets by scores of 25-16 and 25-15.

In the fourth, Covenant regrouped and took five of the final seven points of the set to take the win. Hannah Harris and Seehorn had consecutive kills during the final stretch and the Lady Scots took the game on a service error by the Generals.

In the fifth, Covenant took a commanding 8-2 lead, aided by back-to-back service aces from Seehorn, but the Generals chipped away at the lead. The Lady Scots held a 13-9 lead, but Washington & Lee scored the final six points to take the victory.
