WILMINGTON, Ohio -- In a mostly defensive struggle, the Covenant men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision at Wilmington on Saturday night in non-conference action.

Covenant has lost a pair of matches to begin the year and stands at 0-2 overall. Wilmington evens its record at 1-1 with the win.

The host Quakers took just three shots in the opening half, but were able to net a score in the 18th minute when Grady Garrison put one away, assisted by Carl Bergstrom, to make it 1-0. Covenant held a slim 4-3 edge in total shots during the first half, three of which were taken by Josh Brower, but could not find the back of the net.

The game opened up a bit in the second half, but Wilmington added to its lead in the 78th minute. Niklas Martensson made it 2-0 with his first goal of the year, assisted by Daniel Kappelin, to give Wilmington a 2-0 lead and put the match away.

Wilmington held a 14-8 shot advantage. Brower led the Scots with four shots, two of which were on goal. Scots keepers Jonathan Crossman (0-2) and Paul Lemay split duties at the net. Crossman had one save, while Lemay tallied six. Wilmington keeper Nick Baker (1-1) made a pair of saves.

Covenant will host the David Taaffe Invitational at Scotland Yard on Sept. 9-10. The Scots will face Millsaps on Sept. 9 at 7 p.m.
