ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. -- Aly Hall, Gracie Smith and Lindsay Geving all had victories in doubles and singles play to lead the Covenant women's tennis team to a 6-3 victory over North Carolina Wesleyan on Friday afternoon at the Slick Family Foundation Tennis Center.
Covenant goes to 2-1 overall and 1-0 in conference play with the victory, while N.C. Wesleyan, picked second in the USA South preseason poll, drops to 0-2 and 0-1.
The Lady Scots swept through doubles play to take a commanding 3-0 lead heading into the singles portion. Hall and Annie DeLuca combined for an 8-3 at the No. 1 spot, while Claire Luger and Smith also took an 8-3 win at No. 2. Geving and Danielle Morin completed the sweep with an 8-2 victory at No. 3.
In singles play, Hall moved past N.C. Wesleyan's Stephany Barbera 6-4, 6-0 at the No. 1 position. Smith bested Leigh Hales 6-2, 6-0 at No. 4, while Geving took a 7-6, 4-6, 10-6 win at No. 6 over Ariana Paz.
The singles win for Smith moves her into a tie for the program's all-time victory leader at 28 with Stephanie Sizemore.
