Men's Soccer Falls to Greensboro, 4-2

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant men's soccer team saw its two-match winning streak come to an end on Friday afternoon with a 4-2 loss to Greensboro in USA South action at Scotland Yard.

Covenant drops to 3-9-2 overall and 3-5 in the USA South with the loss. Greensboro improves to 8-5 on the year and 5-2 in league play.

The visiting Pride scored three first half goals to build a comfortable lead. Aameen Goyal scored from the top of the 18-yard box in the 16th minute, assisted by Mike Tzavlas, giving Greensboro a 1-0 lead. In the 28th minute, Carlos Barragan scored the first of two goals with a shot from beyond the box for a 2-0 edge. Jared Heller finished off the half with a successful penalty kick in the 34th minute giving the Pride a 3-0 lead.

In the second half, Covenant put the pressure on the Pride. The Scots got on the board in the 64th minute when Henry Paris headed in a cross from Isaac Johnson from five yards out to cut the Covenant deficit to 3-1. The goal was Paris' first of the year and his career, and Johnson's second assist.

Greensboro would up the lead to 4-1 in the 81st minute on Barragan's second goal, but the Scots again cut into the deficit in the 89th minute when Josiah McDaniel found the back of the net on a free kick. McDaniel's score was the first of the season and career for the sophomore.

Greensboro held a 13-8 shot advantage, but the Scots outshot the Pride 7-5 in the second half. Covenant also had a 4-3 edge in corner kicks in the second period. Jonathan Crossman made four saves for Covenant, while Jaime Payamps had two for Greensboro.
