CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Covenant women's soccer team nearly ended an unbeaten season for visiting Piedmont, but the Lions used a goal in the 96th minute to grab a 1-0 victory over the Lady Scots in USA South action at Chattanooga Christian.
The match was moved to Chattanooga Christian after continued rain over the last several days rendered Scotland Yard unplayable.
Covenant drops to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the USA South. The loss also snaps a 15-match unbeaten streak in overtime matches for the Lady Scots dating back to 2009. Piedmont remains perfect at 10-0 and 5-0 in league play.
Covenant played right with the visiting Lions all night. Piedmont held a slim 10-7 edge in shots taken, but Covenant limited the Lions' ability to get anything going offensively for most of the night.
The Lady Scots' best chance to score all night came in the 76th minute. Anna Porch's header, off a beautiful pass from Ruth Terry, deflected off the crossbar and took one bounce around the goal line before spinning away from the net.
In the overtime period, Piedmont's Cassidy Reich received a serve into the box and deflected it into the net for the game-winner. The goal for Reich was her ninth of the year.
Covenant keeper Rachel Lemay made five saves, while Piedmont's Michaela Gardner had one.
