DANVILLE, Va. -- The Covenant women's tennis team notched another victory -- their fourth straight overall -- at Averett 5-1 on Friday morning at the Averett Tennis Courts.

On a day when both sides agreed to play until a decision had been reached, the day ended after Covenant had won five of the first six matches.

Gretchen Rowe, Claire Luger, and Annie DeLuca each cruised through their singles sets. Rowe won 6-1, 6-1 against opponent Hannah Mattson, while Luger took down Jessie Gomes 6-2, 6-0. DeLuca won her match 6-3, 6-1.

In doubles, Luger and Rowe combined to defeat the Averett tandem of Mattson and Katie Abelseth 8-1, and DeLuca teamed with Lindsay Geving to win their match 8-2 over Gomes and Angelica Orlikowski.

Covenant moves to 11-5 on the year and an 8-2 mark in USA South conference play. With two USA South games left, the Lady Scots are fourth in the conference and are just one game behind Methodist and Huntingdon, who are tied for second place. Covenant owns the tiebreaker over Huntingdon after defeating the Hawks last week.

Covenant will have a chance to move up in the standings with two matches left on the season, both of which will be played on Saturday. Starting with with Mary Baldwin at 10 a.m., Covenant will then go up against Meredith at 2 p.m. Each match will take place in Staunton, Va.
