Women's Tennis Cruises Past Snead State 7-2 in Opener

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- On a unseasonably warm, February Saturday, the Covenant women's tennis team got its spring season underway with a 7-2 victory over two-year school Snead Sate at the Covenant Tennis Complex.

The match was the spring opener for both teams.

The Lady Scots got off to a quick start by sweeping the doubles portion of the match. No. 1 tandem Gretchen Rowe and Claire Luger defeated Rachel Farmer and Amanda Bertoldi 8-3, while Annie Deluca and Lindsay Geving took an 8-5 win at the No. 2 spot. Gracie Smith and Jennie Spielman completed the sweep with an 8-2 victory.

Luger defeated Bertoldi 6-3, 6-2 at the No. 2 singles spot and Catherine Landers picked up a three-set win over Liz Adams 3-6, 6-4, 10-6. Victories by Deluca and Smith at the Nos. 3 and 4 spots, respectively, clinched the match for Covenant. Deluca won 6-4, 6-0 and Smith took a 6-2, 6-1 decision.

Covenant will be back in action next Friday, Feb. 13 when they travel to regional power Sewanee. Match time is set for 8 p.m. EST (7 p.m. CST).
