VanDyk Leads Volleyball to Two More Wins

MARYVILLE, Tenn. -- Covenant volleyball senior Chelsea VanDyk tallied her 1,300th kill on Saturday during a quad-match, as the senior led the Lady Scots to victories over William Peace, 3-1 and N.C. Wesleyan, 3-0 inside Maryville's Boydson Baird Gymnasium.

VanDyk had 36 kills on the afternoon with a .432 hitting percentage, as she crossed the 1,300 mark during the second match of the day against the Battling Bishops. The strong hitter took the set from Ginny Moore, throwing it down for an 8-6 lead over, helping the Scots on a 10-0 run to secure the match, 3-0.

VanDyk leads the conference with a .326 hitting percentage on the year, as she has 1,309 career kills.

Covenant defeated William Peace earlier in the day, 3-1.

The wins mark the 13th-straight USA South Athletic Conference victory, as it's the squad's ninth win in a row with VanDyk leading the way. The Lady Scots currently lead the USA South's South division with 13-1 conference record in their vie for the regular season championship.

The Scots took their first match in a 3-1 fashion over William Peace. Covenant defeated the Pacers in four close sets, 25-23, 25-19, 21-25, 25-20.

VanDyk had a huge game, posting 18 kills including the match-winner late against William Peace. She hit at a .333 clip, while adding a service ace, three digs and a block solo in the USA South win.

Ginny Moore and Shuyler Moore both posted double efforts, as Schuyler neared a triple double. She had 38 assists, 12 digs, eight kills and two blocks, while Ginny tallied 14 kills and a team-high 17 digs.

Hannah Stewart and Ariana Buchanan added double-digit digs with 12 and 11, while Buchanan had nine assists for the Scots.

In all, Covenant posted a .203 hitting percentage in the contest.

William Peace (17-11, 9-6 USAS) saw Laura Bland tally 17 kills. Kennedey Paine had 26 assists to lead the Pacers, while Liana Solomont neared a double-double with 17 assists and nine kills.

Carson Williams (25), Jenna Rouse (13) and Maddie Irvin (10) led William Peace in digs.

Covenant followed suit in their second match, knocking off conference foe N.C. Wesleyan 25-17, 25-12, 25-17.

VanDyk added her second 18-kill performance of the day behind a .571 hitting percentage. She had two service aces to go with two blocks and two digs.

Ginny Moore had 12 kills to follow VanDyk, as she had her second double-double of the day with 17 digs. She also contributed four service aces. Schuyler Moore also had her second double-double with 39 assists and 13 digs, while Buchanan had 12 digs for the Lady Scots.

For the Battling Bishops (9-16, 5-11), it was Tori Stewart who had seven kills to lead the way. Ayla Brewer had 19 assists, while Christina Huber tallied 20 digs. Evite Hunter added 10 digs to pace N.C. Wesleyan.

UP NEXT

Covenant will look to extend their winning streak to 10, as they step out of conference action on Wednesday, hosting Birmingham Southern at 7 p.m. inside Barnes PE Center. The team's four seniors (Chelsea VanDyk, Kelsey Mathis, Jaclyn Stuart and Hannah Rogers) will be honored as part of Senior Night.
