GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Daniel Kubin made a career-high tying eight saves, but the Covenant men's soccer team fell to Greensboro 1-0 in USA South action on Monday afternoon at Pride Field.
The contest was a make-up from the Sept. 25 match that was postponed due to inclement weather. That match was started but halted in the 33rd minute with Greensboro leading 1-0 due to unplayable conditions.
The loss drops the Scots to 3-9-2 overall and 2-3-2 inside the USA South. Greensboro stays unbeaten in conference play at 6-0-1 and 9-4-1 overall on the year.
Greensboro struck for the match's only goal in the 65th minute. Shaun Watt headed in a corner kick from Robbie Barnes giving the host Pride a 1-0 edge. Greensboro would hold that margin for the rest of the match.
The first half was evenly played, despite a 9-2 shot advantage for Greensboro. Covenant took two shots on goal in the period. Bryce Bartelt took a shot in the 24th minute after Greensboro keeper Jaime Payamps deflected the ball back towards the top of the box, but Payamps was able to recover and make the save on Bartelt's attempt. Payamps also made a save on Noah Wiersema's attempt in the 11th minute of action.
Kubin collected his eight saves, while allowing just the one goal. Payamps made two saves for the Pride.
