LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant women's soccer team was unable to get on the board again as they suffered their third straight defeat to start the season, falling 1-0 to Sewanee on Tuesday night at Scotland Yard.

Sewanee moves to 2-0 on the season, while Covenant drops to 0-3.

The Tigers struck early as Shelby Meckstroth lofted a ball over the head of goalkeeper Lucy Johnson that bounced off the crossbar and trickled in seven minutes into the match.  It was her fifth goal on the season.  Covenant was able to hold Sewanee scoreless for the rest of the half, despite the Tigers' nine shots.

The Lady Scots were able to mount more of an offensive attack than in their previous two games. In the second half alone, Covenant took nine shots but were unable to convert their opportunities against Sewanee keeper Olivia Glascoe. Covenant had 12 shots, including seven on goal, all of which Glascoe turned aside.

One of the Lady Scots' best chances of the night came when Sophia Gianis got behind the defense at one point midway through the second half. Gianis was unable to get off a shot, however, as Glascoe broke on the ball and knocked it away.

Bethany Logan and Anna Porch both had two shots on goal for Covenant, while Kaitlyn Winking, Anne Charlotte Strawbridge and Rachel Bernard had one apiece

Johnson made eight saves on the night, including two in the second half that elicited roars of approval from the home crowd.

Covenant will look to halt its losing streak on Friday when they travel to face Emory & Henry at 7:30 p.m. in Emory, Virginia.
