LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant women's basketball team suffered from a cold shooting night and visiting Sewanee took advantage as the Tigers defeated the Scots 66-38 on Tuesday night inside Barnes PE Center.
Covenant falls to 0-7 on the year. Haley Soles led the way for a second straight game with 14 points, including four 3-pointers, to go along with four assists and three rebounds. Morgan Woodward added nine points, four assists and four rebounds. Clara Dirkse chipped in four points and a team-high seven rebounds.
The Scots were limited to 23.2 percent shooting from the field and 29.4 percent from behind the 3-point line.
Hannah McCormack led three players in double figures for Sewanee with 17 points. Sewanee (7-1), which is off to its best start since the 2005-06 season, also received 11 points from Rebekah Faulkner and 10 from Jamie Chauvin. Kayla Sewell tallied six blocks, five assists and nine rebounds on the night.
Sewanee took a commanding 30-15 lead at the half after leading throughout the period. The Tigers stretched the margin out to 30 in the second half.
Sewanee made 45.6 percent from the floor, but only connected on 5-of-19 3-pointers. The Tigers outrebounded the Scots 44-34.
Covenant will host Berry on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Barnes PE Center. The game will be the final one for the Scots before final exams and Christmas Break.
