LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant women's basketball team will begin USA South Conference play this weekend against Ferrum (Friday at 5:30 p.m.) and Averett (Saturday at 2 p.m.). The Scots return to competition after having nearly three weeks off for Christmas Break.
Both games will feature live video with play-by-play commentator Tim Mahla. Live stats will also be available.

Covenant Update: 3-5 overall, 0-0 USA South
- The Scots have lost three straight contests, but have not played a game since losing to Berry 77-58 on Dec. 14. Alexis Storteboom had eight points and 13 rebounds in the loss.
- Over the last three games, Storteboom is averaging a double-double with 10.3 points and 10.3 rebounds. The sophomore is averaging 8.1 points and 8.1 rebounds for the season.
- Returning to the court for the Scots in the spring semester is sophomore Haley Soles. Soles was a GSAC All-Freshman honoree last season as she averaged 11.0 points per game and made a team-high 64 3-pointers.
- This weekend is the first of four this year in which Covenant will play USA South opponents on consecutive days. Friday's game will also mark the first USA South contest in program history and the first-ever meeting against Ferrum.
- The contest against Averett on Saturday will also be the first meeting between the schools.

Series History: First Meeting
- Ferrum is coming off a pair of victories over Birmingham Southern and Rhodes to remain perfect on the year. In the 79-77 win over Rhodes, Shea Smith drained a 3-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into overtime and the Panthers won in double-OT.
- Smith leads five scorers averaging double figures on the year with 16.0 points per game. Jacole Hairston (15.0), Kylene Culler (13.8), Katy Kipps (12.0), and Boreika Burwell (11.0) also average double digits.
- Ferrum leads the USA South in scoring average at 86.8 points per game and field goal percentage at 48.5 percent.
- The Panthers are 2-0 in true road games and 3-0 away from Swartz Gymnasium.
- Ferrum has made appearances in the last two NCAA tournaments.

Series History: First Meeting
- Coming into Friday night's contest at Maryville, Averett is 1-4 on the season. The Cougars' lone win of the season came at home against Emory & Henry in a 66-59 overtime victory.
- Oneka Jones leads the team in several offensive categories, including points per game (11.0), rebounds (9.2), and field goal percentage (66.7). Jones has also tallied three double-doubles on the year and has recorded double-digit rebounds in all but one game.
- Averett averages just 57.6 points per contest while shooting 32.1 percent from the field as a team.
- Saturday's game marks the first meeting between Covenant and Averett in women's basketball.
- Averett is 0-4 on the road this season.
