ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Covenant volleyball team opened up the Emory Invitational on Friday afternoon with a 3-0 (25-11, 25-9, 25-18) loss to Wellesley at the Woodruff PE Center on the campus of Emory University.
Covenant drops to 6-4 on the season. Wellesley, a member of the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), goes to 11-1 overall.
The Lady Scots were also playing their second straight contest without Chelsea VanDyk. Cora Schroeder led Covenant with five kills to go along with four digs. Anna Swain and Hannah Rogers also added four kills each. Stephanie Kirkpatrick had 13 assists. Estes Carlson and Mariah Corney led the Covenant defense with nine and eight digs, respectively.
Wellesley was just too much to overcome for the Lady Scots. The Blue had 46 kills led by Brooke Fieldman's 10. Hilary Ayers had 17 assists and four service aces while Traci Hamanaka registered 15 digs.
Covenant will look to bounce back on Saturday as they play two matches. The Lady Scots face Emory & Henry at 10:30 a.m. and then No. 4-ranked, and tournament host, Emory at 1 p.m.
