EAST RIDGE, Tenn. -- Four different players notched a goal for the Covenant women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon as the Lady Scots snapped a three-game losing streak with a 4-1 victory over Tennessee Temple at Camp Jordan.
Anne Charlotte Strawbridge and Sophie Gianis scored in the opening period and Bethany Logan and Ruth Terry added goals in the second half as the Lady Scots improve to 2-4 on the season.
Tennessee Temple drops to 2-4.
Covenant got on the board first when Strawbridge deflected in a score from a few yards out on a corner kick from Jessica Rowe in the 24th minute. The goal is Strawbridge's first of the season. The Lady Scots would add to their lead before the halftime break as Gianis received a well-placed ball from JoJo Brauer and found the back of the net in the 42nd minute. The goal is the first of Gianis' collegiate career.
In the second half, Covenant continued to dominate. Logan was able to loft a shot over Tennessee Temple keeper Lyndi Dodd's outstretched arms from roughly 25 yards out in the 54th minute to give Covenant a 3-0 lead. Kaitlyn Winking was credited with an assist on the goal, which was Logan's first of the year.
After Tennessee Temple closed the gap to 3-1 on a goal from Kansas Carpenter in the 79th minute, Covenant again stretched its lead out to three with a score from Ruth Terry. Terry used her speed to get by her defender and knock the shot in for her second score of the year.
Covenant outshot the Crusaders 20-5 and 11-2 in shots on goal. Keeper Lucy Johnson made one save as she picks up the victory. Dodd made seven saves for Tennessee Temple.
The Lady Scots will open up the home portion of their schedule on Tuesday when they host Birmingham Southern. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
