ROME, Ga. -- Sophomore Rachel Bernard could not have picked a better time to net her first collegiate goal. Bernard came off the bench and scored in the 38th minute for the lone goal of the match as Covenant defeated Guilford 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in the team's Berry Invitational finale.

Covenant finishes the first weekend of the season with a 1-1 record. Guilford drops to 0-1.

Bernard received a pass from teammate JoJo Brauer and found the back of the net from roughly seven yards out for the score that would hold until the end.

Covenant had a large shot advantage as they took 16 compared to just four for the Quakers. Keepers Hannah Bales and Lucy Johnson split time at the net as each played a half.

Freshman Anna Porch took seven shots, three on goal, to lead the Lady Scots. Bernard and Bethany Logan took three and two shots, respectively.

Guilford keeper Abby Gove made five saves.

Covenant will play at Sewanee on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. EDT.
