LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant softball team scored two runs early in game one to take a lead, but visiting Huntingdon rallied for a 9-2 win in the first game before cruising to a 12-0 win in game two of the GSAC doubleheader on Monday.
Covenant falls to 2-20 on the season and 1-5 in league play. Huntingdon remains perfect in conference action at 4-0 and they move to 10-8 overall.
Game One: Huntingdon 9, Covenant 2
Jenni Jobe had three hits with a run scored and the Lady Scots took a 2-0 lead after three innings, but Huntingdon rallied for a 9-2 victory.
Courtney Wagoner and Kendall Whann also added two hits apiece with Wagoner adding an RBI for Covenant. Morgan Lane finished 1-for-4 with a run driven in.
The Lady Scots got on the scoreboard first in the third inning. Chandler Shepherd singled with one out and then stole second base. After a Jobe base hit, Wagoner and Lane followed with consecutive singles to put Covenant up 2-0.
Huntingdon would waste no time in tying the score at 2-2 in the fourth inning before taking command of the contest with a three-run fifth and seventh innings.
Covenant starter Cori Hilt (2-9) pitched valiantly, but gets the loss as she allowed all nine runs in seven innings. Huntingdon's Melissa McClure (4-3) gets the win after she surrendered two runs on 10 hits.
Game Two: Huntingdon 12, Covenant 0
In the second game, it was all about Huntingdon starter Brooke Meadows. Meadows tossed a five-inning no-hitter and the Lady Hawks cruised to a 12-0 victory.
Meadows walked two batters and hit another, but struck out eight on 83 pitches to complete the no-hitter.
Huntingdon got two hits, including a home run, and three RBIs from Ashley Hawkins. Gabby Alcantar went 3-for-4 while Halleigh DiNicholas added two hits and two runs batted in.
Covenant starter Ellie Groenendyk (0-2) controlled the game through four innings before suffering through a seven-run fifth. Groenendyk struck out four and threw 104 pitches in five innings.
Covenant will look to get back on the winning track on Saturday when they host GSAC foe Salem at 1 p.m. on Lookout Mountain. The Lady Scots and Spirits split a doubleheader earlier this season.
