Women's Basketball Returns Home Saturday

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant women's basketball team will wrap up the fall semester portion of its schedule on Saturday afternoon when the Scots host Berry (3-3) at 2 p.m. The two schools met earlier this year in Rome, Ga., with Covenant taking a 72-60 victory.

About Berry (3-3 overall, 0-1 Southern Athletic Association):

The Vikings are 3-3 on the year after losing to Emory 87-73 last Saturday… Chanlir Segarra had 17 points and 13 assists in the losing effort… Segarra leads three Berry players in averaging double figures on the year with 20.8 points per contest… Mel McLean (17.7 PPG) and Megan Walsh (11.3 PPG) also average in double digits… Berry likes to shoot the 3 as they make 8.5 per game on the year which ranked eighth in Division III coming into this week…McLean leads the way with 3-point shooting as she makes 3.5 per game, good for fifth in the country…  Segarra is 10th in the country in assists per game averaging 6.8 per contest and she is 21st in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.93… Saturday will mark Berry's first contest away from the Cage Center in Rome.

Stephanie Dunn is in her fourth year at the helm of the Berry program. Dunn has accumulated a 43-39 record at the school.

Covenant Update: 3-4 overall, 0-0 USA South

Covenant has dropped two straight games over the past week with losses to Oglethorpe last Saturday and at Sewanee on Tuesday… Tuesday's loss at Sewanee (52-48) was the first game all year decided by fewer than 12 points for the Scots… Covenant has no scorer averaging double figures, but five that tally at least 7.3 per game led by Aleigha Williams at 9.7 PPG… Jessie Blankenship (9.0), Kiaira Cooper (8.4), and Morgan Woodward (7.3) are the other top scorers… The previous meeting with Berry came on the opening night of the season and the Scots were sharp in a 72-60 victory… Blankenship had 17 points and 11 rebounds in that victory… The earlier win over Berry is believed to be the first in program history over the Vikings… Covenant averages just 54.4 points per game, but does a good job defensively limiting opponents to 58.7 points and 34.8 shooting.

Sarah Harris is in her first year as the head coach of the Scots and is 3-4. She is in her fifth year overall of being a head coach after a four-year stint at Grove City from 2006-10.
