Volleyball Bests Oglethorpe in Five

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Covenant volleyball team wrapped up the regular season portion of its schedule on Tuesday night facing non-conference foe Oglethorpe on the road. The match went five sets before Covenant pulled out the victory 28-26, 21-25, 25-22, 14-25, 15-11.

Covenant clinches its third consecutive 20-win season with the victory as the Lady Scots stand at 20-10 overall. Oglethorpe falls to 5-18 on the year.

Hannah Rogers led the Covenant attack with 18 kills while Chelsea VanDyk had 14 kills, five block solos and three block assists. Stephanie Kirkpatrick narrowly missed a triple-double with a season-high 51 assists to go along with 23 digs and eight kills. Cora Schroeder also recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 21 digs.

Estes Carlson and Anna Swain added in 20 and 17 digs, respectively.

Covenant rallied in the first set to take a 28-26 victory as they scored three of the final four points on the strength of kills from VanDyk and Caroline Cone. Oglethorpe would knot the match at 1-1 by scoring five straight points to end the second set.

Oglethorpe would jump out to a 6-1 lead in the third set before Covenant rallied with six straight points. The set went back-and-forth until the Lady Scots slowly built a slim lead. Schroeder would end the set with a kill. Oglethorpe would cruise in the fourth set to send the match into the fifth.

After Oglethorpe cut a Covenant lead to 11-10 in the fifth set, the Lady Scots scored four of the next five to end the match. Rogers had two kills during the stretch and Swain added one.

McKenna Bondarenko led Oglethorpe with 23 kills while Anna Marie DiSalvo had 47 assists.

Covenant will have the third-seed from the South Division and begin the USA South Conference tournament on Friday at 3:00 p.m. in Martinsville, Va., against North second-seed Meredith.
