KENNESAW, Ga. -- The Covenant men's basketball team used a 14-2 scoring run to open the second half, but host Kennesaw State responded to cruise to a 95-66 victory in an exhibition game Saturday night at KSU's Convocation Center.
The game was a scrimmage for Covenant and will not be reflected on the team's season record.
Kennesaw State, an NCAA Division I and Atlantic Sun Conference member, held a 41-25 halftime lead. Covenant came out in the second period and used a 14-2 run to cut that deficit to 43-39 with 15:53 left on the clock.
The run was highlighted by six points from Colton McGriff, five from Chris Boyd and a 3-pointer from Jake DeLaney. But Covenant was unable to climb any closer the rest of the way as KSU used its talent to pull away in the half.
Covenant shot 33.9 percent as a team as was led by McGriff's 14 points and six rebounds. Boyd added 11 points and three rebounds while Nate Frierson led the Scots with four assists and five points.
KSU received 15 points from Orlando Coleman.
Covenant will play an exhibition game before the regular season on Friday, November 8 at Chattanooga.
