LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Three Covenant players scored in double figures led by Ruth Gibson's 17 points, but hot shooting from visiting Berry propelled the Lady Vikings to an 89-66 win on Thursday night inside Barnes Physical Education Center.

The loss drops Covenant to 6-4 overall and marks the first home defeat for the Lady Scots this season. Berry completes the season sweep over Covenant and improves to 7-6 overall.

The Lady Scots started quickly with Gibson knocking down a 3-pointer on Covenant's first possession of the game. Covenant would take an 11-2 lead after a Jessie Blankenship layup at the 17:42 mark of the first half. At that point, however, Berry began to heat up.

The Lady Vikings would rattle off a 21-2 scoring run, capped by a layup from Chanlir Segarra, that put Berry ahead 23-13 with 12:19 left in the half. Covenant would answer back with seven straight points with a pair of layups from Kiaira Cooper and a 3-pointer from Haley Soles. The score would remain close most of the rest of the half until Berry drained a couple of 3-pointers late that increased its lead to 49-36 at the half.

In the second half, Berry would continue to pull away as they led by as many as 32 points midway through the half. Covenant could only get as close as 11 points the rest of the way.

Segarra led the Lady Vikings with 29 points going 10-of-20 from the field and connecting on four 3s. Mel McLean totaled 17 points, Alexa Evans added 15 points, and Tara Mullinax chipped in 10 points in the win. Berry was 34-of-73 (46.6 percent) from the field and 10-of-26 from 3-point land.

Blankenship narrowly missed a double-double with 14 points and nine rebounds. Morgan Woodward scored 10 points off the bench, while Alexis Storteboom also just missed a double-double with nine points and 10 rebounds. The Lady Scots slightly outrebounded Berry 46-42.

Covenant will return to play on Saturday when they travel to GSAC foe Salem College. Tip-off for that contest is set for 2 p.m.
