NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The 2012 volleyball season got underway for the Covenant Lady Scots on Friday as they played two matches at the Scott Jones Classic hosted by Trevecca Nazarene University. Covenant dropped its first match 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 25-19) to the host Trevecca, but rebounded in the second match to defeat Martin Methodist 3-0 (25-20, 26-24, 25-20).

Freshman Chelsea Van Dyk had 11 kills to lead Covenant (1-1) in the first match against Trevecca. Estes Carlson recorded 24 digs, while Stephanie Kirkpatrick had 24 assists and nine digs. Cora Schroeder added nine kills and eight digs in the match.

In the day's second contest, both Van Dyk and Schroeder recorded double-digit kills with 13 and 10, respectively. Kirkpatrick had a match-high 39 assists for the Lady Scots. Carlson led Covenant with 10 digs, while Hannah Rogers chipped in with seven kills and eight digs.

Covenant improved greatly on its hitting percentage in the second match as well. After hitting at just a .055 clip in the Trevecca match, the Lady Scots had a .296 percentage in the Martin Methodist contest.

The Lady Scots are back in action on Saturday morning when they face Kentucky Christian at the Scott Jones Classic. Game time is set for 11:00 a.m.
