BOTETOURT CO., Va. -- The Covenant softball season came to a close on Thursday afternoon at the 2012 NCCAA Softball National Championships as the Lady Scots dropped a 4-0 contest to Cal Baptist before being eliminated by Trevecca Nazarene 1-0. Covenant finishes the season 21-22 overall.
Game One
Cal Baptist's Emma Holden threw a no-hitter and the Lancers got just enough offense against Covenant starter Chelsea Krafft to win 4-0. Holden (24-4) struck out 16 and walked two on 101 pitches, 66 of which were strikes.
After three scoreless innings, the Lancers scored a run each in the fourth and fifth innings and two runs in the sixth inning.
Krafft (14-13) was tagged with the loss despite a strong effort in the circle. She allowed four runs, three earned, on six hits while striking out four.
Game Two
In a rematch of the Mid-East Region final last week, Trevecca Nazarene squeezed out a 1-0 win to eliminate the Lady Scots. Lacey Grimes' RBI single in the bottom of the second produced the only run of the contest.
Beth Harris went 2-for-3 with Lauren Johns, Chandler Shepherd, and Jenni Jobe each adding a hit. Covenant left eight runners on-base, including having the bases loaded in the sixth inning with two outs.
Krafft (14-14) was again the tough-luck loser as she went six innings and allowed one run on six hits. Trevecca's Riley Mashburn (13-7) records the complete-game win conceding five hits, while striking out eight and walking two.
