LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Strong pitching along with solid hitting combined to give Covenant its second straight doubleheader sweep as the Lady Scots took out visiting Rust College 10-0 in game one and 16-2 in game two. The games were originally scheduled for March 3, but were rained out.

Pitching took center stage for the Lady Scots in game one. Starting pitcher Chelsea Krafft and reliever Beth Harris combined to throw a five inning no-hitter. It is the fourth time since softball began playing at the varsity level that Covenant has thrown a no-hitter. The last time it happened was on March 7, 2009 when LeeAnn Moody, Rebekah Marbury, and Krafft combined to no-hit Sewanee 7-0.

Krafft (4-4) received the win as she punched out eight batters, while walking three in her four innings of work. Harris then came on in relief in the fifth and needed only six pitches to retire the side.

Harris also connected on two home runs and drove in four runs in the first game. Grace Hooper went 1-for-2 with two runs batted in while Krafft, Jenni Jobe, and Chandler Shepherd each had an RBI.

The second game's victory was given to Harris (2-0) who struck out 10 in four innings. Harris also drove in another five runs at the plate to give her nine RBIs for the day. Jobe had three RBIs and two hits. Lauren Johns, Morgan Booker, and Tatum Daniel each drove in two runs.

With a total of 26 runs, there were plenty of hits and RBIs to go around. Covenant outhit Rust 26-2 in the two games combined. Core went 3-for-3 with three runs in the second game. Courtney Wagoner went 3-for-4 and also scored three runs.

The Lady Scots next game will be at Warner Park in a doubleheader against conference foe Spelman College on Wednesday. Game one is set for 5 p.m.
