ATLANTA -- Backed by strong performances from Anne Marie Rowe and Lauren Redberg, the Covenant women's tennis team defeated Great South Athletic Conference foe Spelman College 7-2 on Wednesday afternoon.
With the win, the Lady Scots remain perfect on the season at 2-0 both overall and in conference matches. Spelman drops to 1-2 in all matches and 0-1 in league play.
Rowe defeated Ali-Symone Faltz 6-0, 6-0 in singles action while Redberg also recorded a straight set shut out against Leah Howard. Madi Hyatt beat Adamma Ebo 6-2, 6-0 and Stephanie Sizemore won her singles match 6-1, 6-2 over Madison Moreland. Spelman got its two victories as Adanne Ebo defeated Sarah Carter in three sets 7-5, 4-6, 10-8. Gretchen Rowe fell to Kemi Oyewole 4-6, 6-0, 6-4.
In doubles action, Hyatt and Redberg teamed up for an 8-4 win over Ebo and Ebo for Spelman. Sizemore and Kelsey Whitted beat Howard and Moreland 8-4, while the Rowe sisters took out Moreland and Faltz 8-0.
The Lady Scots return to action on Thursday with a match at NCAA Division II member Carson-Newman in Johnson City, Tenn.
