Scots Draw For A Second Straight Night With 0-0 Tie

NASHVILLE, Tenn -- For a second straight night at the Trevecca Nazarene Invitational, the Covenant Scots played extra-time and for the second night in a row the match ended in a draw. Playing the host Trevecca Nazarene University, the Scots and Trojans played to a 0-0 draw on Saturday night.

The Scots had several opportunities in the first 45 minutes as they outshot the Trojans 8-3 in the period. Ian Meredith had the first attempt at putting the Scots ahead, but his shot was saved by Trojans keeper Hayden Coffman at the 12:12 mark. Covenant dominated their side of the pitch in the last 10 minutes of the period, but Coffman again was able to save shots from Kinny Kedida, Hunter Harrison, and Joel Friesen to keep the match scoreless.

Early in the second period, Covenant again had a solid chance at knocking in the first goal but Tyler Morrison's shot was gathered in by Coffman at the 53:08 mark. The Trojans then had chances of their own, but Covenant keeper John Eger matched his counterpart with two saves of his own, including one in the 89th minute to send the match into overtime.

Eger made two more saves in the first overtime period, with both coming within 36 seconds of each other, to keep the match tied. In the second overtime period, Covenant could manage just one shot attempt from Gordon Carpenter that went high. Trevecca Nazarene's Sisco Maciel had one last shot for the win in the 109th minute, but it sailed high.

For the match, Covenant outshot the Trojans 17-13, with a 8-5 advantage in shots on goal. Eger made 5 saves for the Scots, while Trevecca Nazarene's Coffman made 8 of his own.

Covenant's record goes to 0-2-2 for the season and have not had a match decided by more than one goal. Trevecca Nazarene is now 2-1-1 on the year.

The Scots now return to Lookout Mountain to play their home opener at Scotland Yard on Saturday, September 17 at 1:00 p.m. against Guilford College.
