DAYTON, Tenn. -- The Covenant College baseball team took a big loss Tuesday, losing to Bryan College 16-0. The game was called after seven innings. "A short memory is needed after a game like that," said junior Taylor Oldham. "We need to learn from games like these, but not dwell on them."
Covenant managed just 4 hits while surrendering 19. All 16 of Bryan College's runs came in just three innings, 10 of which were in the top of the third. Sterling Witt took the loss for the Scots, his second of the season.
Junior James Rollins commented: "It was a tough game. Sometimes you get the bear, sometimes the bear gets you. We just need to bounce back strong next game and show what we are made of."
Jonathan Davis and Shane Clawson did most of the damage for the Lions, combining for 5 hits, 7 RBIs, and 3 home runs. Josh Harris got the win for Bryan, pitching 6 scoreless innings and striking out 9.
For Covenant, senior Caleb Abney went 2 for 3 with a double. Freshman John Mark Griggs went 1 for 1, getting his first ever college hit. Luke Furuto went 1 for 2 with a double.
Freshman Ben Mason pitched the last inning, giving up no runs, and striking out one.
Covenant looks to bounce bag after a tough two weeks in which they are 2-5, with an overall record of 9-6. They take on Hiwassee College Friday at 4:00pm, the first of a three game series.
