Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Oglethorpe Pulls Past Lady Scots in Second Half

ATLANTA -- The Covenant women's basketball team played Oglethorpe University on Wednesday evening and came away with a 60-39 loss.  Oglethorpe's record improves to 3-5 as they were able to pull away from the Lady Scots late in the first half.  Covenant's record now drops to 2-4 for the season.

Covenant stayed with Oglethorpe as the game started and even led by three at one point late in the first half, but Oglethorpe's Christian Langston's jumper with 3:23 remaining gave the lead back to Oglethorpe and started what would turn into a 16-0 run.  The Lady Petrels scored the last 10 points of the first half and the first six of the second, going 8-for-10 from the floor during the five-minute stretch.

Oglethorpe's defense shut Covenant down as the Lady Scots produced only five points through the first eight minutes of the final period.  Eventually Covenant returned to making shots, but by then Oglethorpe had built a 20-point lead and were also making their own shots.  Oglethorpe shot 37.3% (25-67) from the field and connected on 42.9% (5-12) attempts from behind the arc.  For the game, Oglethorpe converted Covenant's 26 turnovers into 36 points.

Margaret Cross led the Lady Scots offense with 11 total points.  Jessie Blankenship had 7 points and 7 rebounds.  Oglethorpe's Sarah Jones led all scorers with 14 points.  The Lady Petrels also had 24 bench points, showing the depth of Oglethorpe's team.

The Lady Scots will play their next game on Saturday, Dec. 10 in Pensacola, Fla. against Pensacola Christian College.  Covenant will return home to Barnes Physical Education Center on Dec. 16 for a men and women's doubleheader against Millsaps College.
