Asbury Takes Mid-East Final over Lady Scots

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Saturday evening, the Lady Scots soccer team played in the finals of the NCCAA Mid-East Region Tournament against Asbury University.  Covenant was able to score an equalizer in the first half, but another goal from the Lady Eagles helped Asbury secure its 2-1 victory and the 2011 Mid-East region title.  Asbury's record improves to 13-8-1, while Covenant ends their season at 10-9-2 and 6-1-1 in the Great South.

In the 15th minute, Asbury's Emily Lawson got past the Covenant defense and sent a shot flying into the net.  Covenant was able to recover as Kara Lee scored her 8th goal of the season and tied the score at one 15 minutes later.  Only nine minutes after that, Asbury scored to take the lead again – this time via a Covenant own goal.

The Lady Scots would respond in the second half by peppering the Asbury goal with seven shots – compared to none on the Eagles side – but none to any avail.  Asbury goalkeeper Maegan Rogers recorded six saves, including four in the second half.

Teagan Wood and Mo Cross both had two shots during the competition.  Hannah Bales recorded two saves for the night.

Covenant's season ends with the Mid-East runner-up and with a record of 10-9-2.
