GREENSBORO, NC -- Callum Sears scored 17 points off the bench, but it wasn't enough for Covenant to overcome 25 turnovers and 37% shooting from the floor as the Scots fell to the Pride of Greensboro College 74-55 Tuesday night in North Carolina. With the loss, Covenant drops to 2-12 on the year while Greensboro sees their record improve to 6-5 on the season.
Covenant's only lead of the game came at the 18:18 mark of the first half after forward Sam Bowman connected on a short jumper, giving the Scots a 4-2 advantage. But the Pride's pressure defense came up huge later in the half as they forced 14 Scots turnovers to help Greensboro gain a 45-30 lead at the break.
Greensboro never let the Scots back into the game in the second half. A three-pointer by Michael Jones gave the Pride their largest lead of the contest at 64-41 with 11:33 remaining. Covenant would only get as close as 17 points the rest of the half.
Alongside Callum Sears' 17 points, Sam Bowman also scored in double digits with 11 points while grabbing 6 rebounds to help the Scots win the rebounding battle 36-34. Point guard Dominique McGaughey added in 5 assists for the Scots.
Greensboro was led by T.J. Holman's 20 point effort, on 10-11 shooting from the floor. Adam Powell and Daren Dexter were the only other Pride players to score in double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Dexter also dished out 9 assists as he just missed out on a double-double.
Covenant continues their road trip on Wednesday afternoon as they travel to Rocky Mount, North Carolina to take on North Carolina Wesleyan College at 3:00pm. The next home game for the Scots is Saturday, January 22 at 4:00pm against Rust College.
