LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant College men's soccer team broke above five-hundred for the first time this season by defeating Cornerstone University 3-0 on Saturday to move to 4-3 on the year. Two penalty kicks, one for a foul on senior Brian Stair and the other for a deliberate handball on the goal line, doomed the visiting Eagles, as Julian Allgeier stepped up and converted both spot-kicks to give Covenant two goals on the day. Allgeier's penalties, which were scored in the 2nd and 86th minutes respectively, bookended a first career goal for freshman Garrison Dale, who scored off a cross from senior winger David Pifer midway through the second half.
The Scot's defense also played its part in the victory, as goalkeeper John Eger recorded his third shutout of the season by making several key saves late in the game to keep the clean sheet. The Scots are now undefeated at home this season, having won both games 3-0.
"Today was a good win to build some momentum and put us above five-hundred," said Coach Nathan Pifer. "We're hoping that with this nice stretch of home games coming up that we can continue to progress on the season." Indeed, the Scots now face a favorable schedule as they host their first night game this Tuesday at 7:00 against Emory and Henry College before welcoming Methodist University and Bryan College to Scotland Yard later in the month.
