LOOKOUT MOUTNAIN -- With the season in full force, the Lady Scots (4-0) played the late game Saturday in the first men and women's home doubleheader this year. The men set the stage with a big 3-0 victory in their home opener, and the Lady Scots followed suit with a 7-0 victory over Wesleyan College (0-3). Having had 3 big wins under their belt, the Lady Scots were not about to settle this early in the season. The Lady Scots came ready to play and overwhelmed the visiting Wesleyan Pioneers from the start.
It did not take long for the Lady Scots to get out and run. In the first five minutes, they had already amassed four shots and a goal by senior Kasey Craft, her second of the season. After a short lull in the Lady Scots' offense, Dana Streufert had scored the second goal of the game- her second of the season- off two great passes that spanned three quarters of the pitch. The Lady Scots continued their dominance within seconds of Streufert's goal. Only a few minutes passed, and they had their third ball find the back of the net. This time it was Lauren Probst's turn off a wonderful pass from Kasey Craft. As the half time buzzer went off, the scoreboard read 3-0 in Covenant's favor.
The second half saw very much of the same from the Lady Scots. Within two minutes of the return from intermission, Covenant's lead grew to four as Lauren Probst scored off a beautiful pass from Laura Patty. Not even the ominous weather which included heavy thunderstorms and lightning could hinder the Lady Scots. After the thirty-five minute postponement, on a soaking wet Scotland Yard, the Lady Scots left no doubt as they scored three more additional goals in a five minute stretch in the middle of the second half.
As the final buzzer sounded, it was a definitive 7-0 victory for the Lady Scots and a sweep in the first home doubleheader. Lauren Probst finished with 7 shots on frame, 3 of which she converted into goals; Kasey Craft recorded a goal along with 5 assists; and Bethany Holman and the Lady Scots' defense claimed another shutout.
Covenant will be on the road for the next two weeks but will return home for Bryan College on Thursday, September 30 at 8:00pm for their second game of the year under the new lights of Scotland Yard. Roads opponents between now and then include Salem College on September 18 and Agnes Scott on September 25.
