WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Aside from the second inning, Covenant's softball team went error-free and allowed the opposing Lady Eagles of Judson University no runs and only 2 hits. In fact, Covenant's defense denied any base-runners in three of the other five innings, and never allowed any runners past first base in the remaining two. Unfortunately, the second inning came accompanied with 5 hits which helped produce 4 runs. The 4-0 loss officially knocked the Lady Scots out of the 2010 NCCAA national tournament and brought a halt to their impressive last month of softball.
Covenant had 7 hits of their own but only once did they put together more than one hit during a single at-bat. Beth Harris and Courtney Wagoner each went 2-3; Kristen Walker went 1-3 with a double; Christine Core went 1-3 with a sacrifice bunt; and Lindsey Potter claimed the team's other hit with her 1-3 outing.
But the Lady Scots still had their chances. In the second inning, they threatened with runners on second and third and two out. In the third and fourth, they left runners on the corners. And in the fifth, they left Beth Harris on second. Overall, they left 8 runners stranded and went 0-5 with runners in scoring position.
Chelsea Krafft pitched all six innings, struck out 3, and walked 1.
For Judson, Carrie Sensor and Danielle Curylo both went 2-3, but Hallie Niewold did the most damage with her 2-RBI double in the second inning. Sarah Boyer pitched a complete game shutout for the Lady Eagles, striking out 6 in the process.
