Lookout Mountain, GA- Chelsea Krafft threw a one-hitter in game one of today's match-up against Bluefield College (6-20, 0-14 AAC). In game two, she threw 85 pitches (56 for strikes), and the Lady Scots tallied two more wins to their now 6-24 record.
Centerfielder Christine Core went 3 for 7 on the day with an RBI and a run scored. Her RBI base hit to right-center in the bottom of the third was the difference in game one until the Lady Scots tagged on 4 more runs on 4 hits in the bottom of the sixth to open up the lead and provide Krafft with some breathing room.
Jenny Keener and Kimi Peebles each had 2 RBIs off base hits in the rally which put Covenant on top 5-0, the game's eventual final score.
In game two, Bluefield took the early lead, scoring 2 runs on 3 hits in the top of the first, but Covenant's offense answered in the bottom half with 3 runs of their own. After back-to-back hits and a walk, a Bluefield error helped score two, and Courtney Wagoner followed with a sacrifice that punched across Covenant's third run.
Krafft allowed only one more hit through the remaining six innings as the Lady Scots cruised to the 3-2 victory, their sixth in the last seven games.
The lone defeat came in Barbourville, Kentucky Tuesday night against the Lady Bulldogs of Union College (15-13, 7-5 AAC). Despite a commanding 8-4 victory in game one, the Lady Scots' momentum slowed at the hands of Union starter Sarah Driver (9-5), who allowed only two base-runners in her complete game shut-out.
In game one at Union, Core, Kim Cuticchia, and Beth Harris each had two hits and two runs. Harris also batted in 3 of the team's 8 runs.
