Scots Extend Record To 6-3 With Victory Over Temple

Lookout Mountain, GA- The Covenant College baseball team returned to action on Monday to face local rival Tennessee Temple in a one game contest.  Andre Glover started on the mound for the Scots, who took the field looking to improve upon their 5-3 season record.  And indeed, the team appeared to be intent on victory from the start.  After not allowing a run on defense in the top of the first inning, the Scots' batters took to home plate in the bottom of the first and slammed home 5 runs.  Covenant's first three batters led the way, with lead-off hitter Harrison Fischer scoring the first run before Luke Furuto knocked a three run home run to deep right to put the Scots up 4-0.  Brandon Hagopian would later score a run off an errant pitch to put the Scots up 5-0 in what was just the first inning of play.

In the second inning, Furuto returned to bat and once again plagued the Temple pitcher by striking his second home run of the day, a two-run shot that went over the deepest part of the center field fence.  The 7-0 scoreline, which increased to 8-0 in the third following a Fischer double, would remain this way until the fifth inning, when Temple scored one of their three runs on the day following a Lee Wilburn double.

To start the sixth inning, Covenant swapped Glover for pitcher Demarius Johnson, who would strike out 4 Temple batters before the game was over.  The Scots scored two more runs in the eighth to put the score at a solid 10-1, before Temple added two runs in the top of the ninth.

The Covenant defenses were firm, though, halting the score at 10-3, and improving Covenant's record to 6-3 on the season.  Covenant will now face UVA-Wise in a doubleheader at 1:00 P.M. Tuesday.
