Lookout Mountain, GA- Long balls by James Rollins, Kurtis Wiles, and Kevin Wilson in this afternoon's win over Maryville College put Covenant's home-run count to 8 on the season, already over half of last year's number. Indeed, this year's roster is already showing signs of having several potential sluggers as the 8 homers have come from 6 different players.
The Scots (of Covenant) gained an early lead thanks to a well-struck shot to right-center by catcher Jared Carlson in the bottom of the first. The RBI double missed home-run distance by 3 feet.
The lead ended up see-sawing back and forth between the teams until the bottom of the third when Rollins belted a 2-run homer to give Covenant a lead they would not relinquish. Solid pitching by Andre Glover (1-1), Sterling Witt, and Wesley McDowell for the remaining innings, plus a 2-run error in the 6th by Maryville's defense propelled Covenant to a 9-4 win and a 3-1 overall record.
The Scots have the weekend off but will return to action next Tuesday to face Atlanta Christian College in a single 9-inning game. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00pm.
