LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Covenant returned to the comforts of Barnes Gymnasium for the first time in 16 days Thursday night to host Great South Athletic Conference opponent Agnes Scott College. For the Lady Scots, they were looking to keep riding their current five-match win streak and improve their record to a season high five games over .500. The Scotties from Agnes Scott were looking to avenge an early season loss to Covenant.
The Lady Scots had to fight off a determined and feisty Agnes Scott team, but nevertheless came away the victors again, winning in straight sets 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-14).
Although Covenant came out on top against the Scotties once again, this match was in stark contrast to the win the Lady Scots posted over Agnes Scott earlier in the year in which Covenant allowed just 28 points total for the match to their GSAC counterpart.
The Lady Scots jumped out to an early 6-2 lead in the first set and would never trail for the rest of the game. The Scotties would keep things interesting, however, as Covenant's largest lead during the set was only six points and that only occurred at the very last point. This was also the same story for the second game as Covenant got out to a 3-0 lead after kills from Kait Glass and Kristin Dahlstrand and would never relinquish the lead to go up 2-0.
The Scotties fought back in the third set as they took their first lead of the match at 10-8 as a result of a Covenant error and a Kalie Ludvigsen kill. But with the score later tied at 11-11, Covenant made their final big move of the match by scoring 14 of the final 17 points to claim the set and the match.
It was a balanced attack for the Lady Scots on this night as seven different players recorded a kill, led by Erica Adams' 8 with Emily Stewart and Jessie Jakes close behind with 7 and 6, respectively. Kristin Dahlstrand had 19 assists, and Paige Cheney led all players with 10 digs.
Agnes Scott was led by Kalie Ludvigsen and Claire Brummeler who each had 5 kills for the Scotties who saw their record drop to 6-13.
Covenant (16-11) will play on the road again this weekend as they travel to Williamsburg, Kentucky to take on NAIA school University of the Cumberlands and NCAA Division II member Urbana University.
The Lady Scots' final home game of the regular season will be Wednesday, November 3 as Covenant hosts Tennessee Wesleyan College at 7:00pm. That night, Covenant will honor its lone senior player, Emily Dupree, in a special ceremony.
