Lady Scots Take Care of Business On Road

MACON, Ga. -- Coming off a tough loss to former NAIA foe Tennessee Wesleyan College on Thursday night, the Covenant Lady Scots volleyball team got back into NCAA Division III play Saturday against Spelman College and Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia.

The Lady Scots wasted no time in getting back to the win column as they dominated the two Great South Athletic Conference schools, winning both in straight sets.  Covenant won the first match over Spelman 25-17, 25-4, 25-12, and in the second match of the day the Lady Scots impressed even further, winning 25-8, 25-11, 25-4 over Wesleyan.

In both matches, Covenant was able to use most of the players on the roster as the Lady Scots overwhelmed the competition.   Against Spelman, Erica Adams led all players with 10 kills, that number equaling the total number of kills Spelman recorded as a team.  Kristin Dahlstrand had just 17 assists, but Lisa Solis came off the bench and contributed 9 of her own.

The second match was even more lopsided as Covenant held Wesleyan College to only 23 points for the entire match.  The Lady Scots were led by freshman Estes Carlson and her 10 kills.  Lisa Solis had another good match as she had 10 service aces, part of a season high 28 service aces for Covenant.

With the two victories, Covenant moves its record to two games over .500 (13-11), the most games the Lady Scots have been over the .500 mark all season long.  Covenant is also 10-5 against NCAA opponents on the year and 6-2 against teams from the Great South.

The Lady Scots will be on the road next at Maryville, Tennessee to take on Salem College and Maryville College next Friday night.  Maryville defeated Covenant earlier this season in a tight contest that went all five sets with Maryville taking the 3-2 win.

Covenant will return home to Barnes Gymnasium on Thursday, October 28 at 6:30pm against Tennessee Wesleyan College.
