Decatur, GA- 15 points in the first half and 30 in the second half were all the Lady Scots needed to claim their fifth win of the season and pull to within one game of the .500 mark. Covenant's defense smothered the Scotties of Agnes Scott College, holding them to 18 points below their season average, allowing only 20.6% shooting, and forcing 24 turnovers. Although the Scotties' defense managed a decent effort (holding Covenant to 17 below their season average and forcing 28 turnovers of their own), the Lady Scots shot a respectable 31.9% from the field: a stat which proved to be a crucial difference in the outcome of the game.
Erika Forland provided the spark for the Covenant offense as she scored several points in the early minutes of the second half to help her team climb out of a 9 point halftime deficit. In fact, her basket with 13:12 remaining gave Covenant a lead with which they did not relinquish. Forland finished with 15 points, 10 rebounds; Margaret Cross added 7 points from the bench, 6 of which came from down town; and Brinkley Knowles put in 8.
With the 45-41 victory, the Lady Scots are now 2-0 this season against Agnes Scott and 5-6 overall. They will be on the road January 11th and 13th, traveling to Piedmont and Union Colleges but will return home for their January 18th game against Spelman College. Covenant defeated Spelman 72-64 earlier this season.
