Slow Start Punishes Scots in Loss at LaGrange

LaGrange, GA-  The Covenant College men's basketball team took to the road Monday night for their contest against LaGrange College, whom they had already downed at home earlier in the season.  Traveling a long distance, and with a roster limited by illnesses and injuries to a couple key players, the Scots were nevertheless hoping to step off the bus and overcome those distractions to pull-off their fourth win of the season.  A slow start, coupled with poor movement on offense, hindered the Scots' efforts, though, and they were never able to gain any ground on LaGrange, who came away with the 63-48 victory.  "We came out flat and were never able to recover from our sluggish start," said Coach Kyle Taylor after the game, "LaGrange, on the other hand, played like a team in desperate need of a win.  They had lost 5 straight games going into the contest and played with a purpose."  Indeed, it was the Panther's Marcus Vaughn who played a huge part in that effort, scoring 17 points and coming down with 13 rebounds on the night.

For Covenant, Stephen Buchanan led with 12 points, and C.J. Robinson was second with 11.  John DeVries led the team with 7 rebounds, and his performance also earned the praise of his coach after the game.  "Jon DeVries did a great job off the bench in the 2nd half. He was a real spark for us, and had our whole team fired up for a stretch, but it was too little too late."  The Scots will be hoping their whole team catches fire before their next game, though, as they must now take to the road yet again to face Huntingdon College on Wednesday.
