Allgeier and Pifer goals guide Covenant to a 3-1 Victory over Emory and Henry

Emory, VA- Luckily for the Covenant College men's soccer team, rain hasn't been the only thing falling in buckets lately.  After netting four against the University of Alabama-Huntsville a week earlier, the Scots looked to continue their fine run of goalscoring form heading into Saturday's match against Emory and Henry College.  Playing conditions, though, were not exactly ideal, as a steady downpour saw the home side's turf field become slicker and slicker with each drop that fell.  Nevertheless, the Scots were able to net early through a Julian Allgeier goal in the first minute.  A Derek Wieldraayer shot found its way to the German forward's foot, and he was able to turn neatly to slot home his 8th goal of the season.

Much like the rain, though, the Scots would not let up, as they continued dominating the home side by creating several goalscoring opportunities and virtually rendering the opposition's offense irrelevant throughout much of the first half.  Still, though, the score remained at 1-0 for much of the opening half until junior David Pifer scored with less than five minutes to go.  Freshman Tyler Morrison was credited with the assist after laying the ball off for an onrushing Pifer to score his second in as many games.

Entering the second half, the Scots knew they needed one more goal to figuratively "break the backs" of their opposition, and they got just what they needed when Allgeier scored his second of the game following a nice pass from senior Ford Quarterman.  Emory and Henry would grab their lone goal on a corner kick later in the half, but it was too little, too late for the home side.

With the 3-1 victory, Covenant is now 3-2-1 on the season, and will play host to Emory University this Wednesday at Scotland Yard.
