In game 1, Union came out swinging hard and stealing base after base to jump out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning. Although motivated to respond quickly, the Covenant bats remained asleep for the remainder of the game with the exception of Jared Carlson (1-2) and Parker Cline's pinch hit single. After Union's explosive first inning, they continued to execute each play methodically through the entire game till the last out was recorded for a final score of 14-1.
On Saturday afternoon, the Scots gathered together at Highlands Park for fresh start. The bats awoke from their slumber a bit more than Friday night's game. Jason Pope went 1-2; Harrison Fisher went 2-3; John Whitehead went 1-3 (1RBI); and Aaron Frederick and John Frederick both singled. Even though the bats provided a couple more runs in game 2, the pitching staff couldn't hold back the Bulldogs offense allowing seven earned runs.
Determined to walk away with one win, the Scots' bats improved quite a bit to provide four runs. Jason Pope and Colby Duckett went 1-3; Blaine Newton went 1-3 (2 RBI); and Taylor Oldham hit a two run shot straight over the left field wall. Despite the much more potent demonstration of power, the Scots couldn't hold the Bulldogs back allowing five earned runs.
After a disappointing weekend, the Scots look to learn from their mistakes when they playi at Berry College at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.
