The Scots showed offensive dominance in Game 1 of a doubleheader against Atlanta Christian College with a 10-0 shutout win but struggled in Game 2, collecting just one hit in a 5-0 loss.
The day started off on a high note, with the Scots' offense roughing up Atlanta Christian starter Zach Nash en route to a ten-run first inning. Nash gave up eight earned runs, walked two and struck out one in a third of an inning.
Six players for the Scots collected at least one RBI in the inning with second baseman Jason Pope and designated hitter Sam Hogan each ending up with two. Hogan, who went 2-2 with two RBIs and two runs scored, also stole his first base of the season.
Starter Brent Neas (two innings) along with relievers Demarius Johnson (two innings) and Tyler Smith (one inning), each had impressive performances on the way to the shutout.
A near flip-flop from Game 1, Game 2 not only didn't start with offense, it didn't see any offense until the seventh inning, the game's last, when Atlanta Christian put up five runs in the inning's top half and sealed the victory with three easy outs in the bottom half. Going 1-2, center fielder Harrison Fisher accounted for the Scots' only hit of the game, a single.
Atlanta Christian starter K.C. Lorow pitched a gem, giving up one hit (Fisher's single) and striking out six and walking just one in four innings of work. Stephen Taylor, who came on in relief of Lorow, pitched three scoreless innings to pick up the win. Covenant's Ty McTier suffered the loss, giving up five earned runs in just a third of an inning.
The Scots will travel to Waleska, GA next Saturday, February 14th to take on Reinhardt College in another doubleheader.
