Lookout Mountain, GA- On "Senior-Day" Saturday, the Lady Scots suffered a loss to Montreat College, effectively ending their 7 match winning streak. Seniors Joanna McGill and Anna Simonton were each honored pre-game for their career efforts as members of the Lady Scots volleyball program. McGill, a business major from Kennesaw, GA entered the match with 1,556 assists and 1,109 digs in 414 total games. Adding her 16 assists and 13 digs from Saturday's match gives her a new total of 1,572 assists and 1,122 digs in 418 career games. Anna Simonton, a psychology major from Fulton, MD, went into the match with her own 725 career digs and 562 service receptions.
After the loss to Montreat, she now has 743 career digs and 581 receptions in her 291 career games.
Covenant, who had fought hard and lost in 5 games to Montreat early in their season, went into the day's match looking for some redemption. However, Lady Cavalier hitters Allison Baumgartner, Ellen Goodman, and Anna Stephenson had other plans, accounting for 35 kills and only 12 errors on 84 total attempts in the 25-20, 25-21, 19-25, 25-21 victory.
The Lady Scots finish the season two games below .500 at 14-16, and although the regular season home matches are through, the Lady Scots are not quite done playing in Barnes Gym. Last week, the NCCAA announced that the regional tournament will be hosted by Covenant College. Matches are scheduled to begin November 19th, but specific match times are yet to be determined.
