Montreat, NC – Senior point guard Liz Martin scored 29 points, handed out five assists, pulled down five rebounds, and added three steals, and freshman guard Ashley Wilson added 21 points, six rebounds and four assists, but the Covenant College women's basketball team lost at Montreat College on a buzzer-beating shot 74-72 on Saturday night in Appalachian Athletic Conference action.  The Lady Scots (10-7, 4-2) blew a late lead and found themselves tied with the Lady Cavs 66-66 with a minute left when Whitney Boone put Montreat up by three with a 3-pointer from the top of the key. Liz Martin nailed her own trey with 49 seconds left to knot the score at 69-69, but Montreat answered again when Tahjma Gabriel nailed a three from the corner with 37 seconds left.   Covenant wasn't finished yet, and they answered with a key play, when Ashley Wilson took a pass from Martin to hit a pressure-packed 3-pointer from the left wing to tie the game for the final time at 72-72 with 20 seconds left. It looked like the Lady Scots were going to make a final defensive stop when Boone missed a contested baseline jumper in the closing seconds, but junior center Alicia Wallace grabbed the offensive rebound and her shot just before the horn won it for Montreat (4-11, 1-5).

Covenant College hosts Union College on Wednesday night at 5:30 and then travels to the University of Virginia at Wise next Saturday afternoon at 4:00, in their two AAC games this week.
