Dayton, TN - The Scots advanced to the Appalachian Athletic Conference men's soccer tournament finals this evening by defeating Bryan College on the Lions' home field. Scoring the match's first goal, Covenant took a 1-0 lead into halftime and looked poised to come away with a shutout of the Lions. A shutout wouldn't come however, as the Scots' lead was erased with just over ten minutes left in the match on a Bryan goal that evened things up. With neither team scoring again before the end of regulation, the match went into overtime, where, if lack of ball control and questionable calls from officials were any indication, things looked bleak for the visitors. However, the Scots put one in the back of the net with three and a half minutes left in the first overtime period to take home the big win and end their rivals' season.
The Scots will play tomorrow, Saturday, November 8th in the tournament championship where they will take on #2 seeded King College, who defeated Montreat College this evening by a score of 6-3. With a win, Covenant will reclaim their AAC conference title and have the opportunity to play in the NAIA national tournament in Fresno, CA.
