Sarah was hired as the Assistant Cross Country and Track Coach in May 2023.
She comes to Covenant from Fort Payne, Alabama where she was an Instructional Aide/Adapted P.E. Teacher. Additionally, Sarah was the Assistant Track and Field Coach for both the local middle school and high school.
"I'm thrilled to have Sarah join me in developing our XC/Track & Field teams both spiritually and athletically. Sarah has a passion for Christ and a love for people," said Head Coach Eli Kaczinski. "I know that she will be a tremendous addition in advancing the vision of our XC/Track and Field programs. I'm thankful in the Lord for opening this door, and I'm excited for the future of our teams!"
Sarah and her husband Jon David are missionaries at Ponderosa Bible Camp in Mentone, Alabama. This ministry allows them to present the gospel to campers by giving them unique opportunities to experience God's power, presence, and peace.
Sarah was a student-athlete at Bryan College in both Cross Country and Track and Field. Some of her honors include being a four-time Appalachian Athletic Conference champion in Track and Field and an NAIA national qualifier in both sports. She graduated in 2022 with a B.S. in Exercise Health Science with a concentration in Physical Education K-12.
“I have always loved running and it is kind of surreal that this gets to be my job! Throughout my running career, God has blessed me with coaches who love the Lord and have pushed me in my walk with Christ,” Nelson said. “I am excited to do the same with my student-athletes."
