FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Covenant traveled to Fayetteville for a pair of non-conference matchups with Methodist and Guilford on Saturday. The Scots competed hard but were unable to overcome either, falling 6-1 to Methodist and 6-1 to Guilford.
MATCH ONE: Methodist 6, Covenant 1
Methodist struck first in doubles as Katie Sechrist and Addison Haden earned a 6-3 win at number three doubles over Landry McKinney and Ora Hall. They clinched the doubles point at number one as Emma Hulicki and Shea Bieniek beat Maisie Tanchanpongs and Estee Verdery 6-4.Â
Methodist completed the doubles sweep as Helen Hoffman and Caitlin Tihanovic beat Katie Cummings and Christina English 6-2.
Methodist continued their momentum in the five slot as Bieniek took down English 6-1, 6-2. Hoffman also had success as she got a 6-3, 6-0 win at number two over Verdery. Methodist got the clinch from Tihanovic as she beat McKinney 6-1, 6-1.
Tanchanpongs was a bright spot for Covenant as she earned an impressive 6-3, 6-3 win over Hulicki at number one. Cummings was unable to overcome Haden, as she fell 6-2, 6-2 at number four. Wilette Morales rounded out the lineup for Methodist as she beat Kruesi Graham 6-2, 6-1 at number six.
MATCH TWO: Guilford 6, Covenant 1
Covenant took on Guilford in their second match of the day. The Scots ultimately fell 6-1 to a tough Quaker squad.
Carolina Dirk and Erika Mendez led the charge as they got a 6-1 win at number one doubles over Estee Verdery and Maisie Tanchanpongs. Guilford clinched the doubles point at number two as Ashley Belnap and Chandler Sizemore beat Katie Cummings and Christina English in a tight 7-5 battle.
Covenant was able to avoid the doubles sweep as Landry McKinney and Ora Hall beat McKenna Merritt and Brooke Tsuei 7-6(6).
In singles play, Tanchanpongs fell at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-0, to Dirk, while Verdery fell at No. 2 to Belnap by the same score.
McKinney and Cummings suffered similar fates at No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, falling 6-2, 6-1 to Sizemore and Merritt.
English, however, battled against Amy Soto Salgado at No. 5, earning a tiebreak win, 6-4, 4-6, 10-8. Hall also played close with LaNiya Ward at No. 6, but fell 7-5, 6-2.

The Scots begin a Spring Break trip to Orlando with a match against Transylvania at 12 p.m.
