Covenant Adds NCCAA Membership

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- In addition to its membership in NCAA Division III, Covenant College athletics added a dual membership with the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletic Association) beginning in the 2022-23 academic year.

Covenant will compete in NCCAA Division I and in the organization's mideast region. All 14 intercollegiate athletics programs will be eligible for postseason play and awards from the NCCAA.

"As a department, our mission is to explore and express the preeminence of Christ in intercollegiate athletics by cultivating disciples and pursuing excellence," noted the Covenant senior staff. "For us, this means not only competing at a high level regionally and nationally but also competing in such a way that furthers each athlete's faith. We believe this mission fits well with the NCCAA model since they seek to facilitate a high level of competition while also competing for a higher purpose."

Covenant will retain its membership with NCAA Division III and the newly-formed Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS). The Scots will be eligible to play in the NCAA postseason, however, the CCS will not have an automatic berth to NCAA Tournaments during its first two years of existence, due to NCAA rules.

Covenant has a long tradition with the NCCAA. The Scots were previously a member of the NCCAA from 2009-14, as the institution transitioned from the NAIA to NCAA Division III, and were also members of the organization from 1972-1994.

The NCCAA's mideast region includes Alice Lloyd (Ky.), Asbury, Campbellsville, Kentucky Christian, and Oakland City (Ind.).
