Women's Tennis Downed in Quarterfinals

ROME, Ga. -- The No. 2 West seed Covenant women's tennis team saw its season come to a close on Thursday with a 7-2 loss to No. 3 East seed Southern Virginia in the quarterfinals of the USA South Tournament at the Rome Tennis Center.

Covenant ends its year with an 11-10 overall record. The 11-win season marked the eighth time in program history the Scots have won at least 10 matches in a year.

The Scots battled in doubles action, but fell in all three matches. Madelyn Savage and Gillian Bosko fell 8-4 at the top flight to Paula Snelson and Jillian Arnold, while Lauren Carr and Nicole Restrepo also fell by an 8-4 final at No. 2.

Southern Virginia (11-3) clinched the match with the first two decisions in singles play. Snelson defeated Savage by a 6-1, 6-1 final to clinch the contest for the Knights.

Covenant's two points came at flight Nos. 3 and 4. Carr completed her strong rookie season with a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Campbell Bueler at No. 3, while Restrepo took down Arnold 6-1, 6-4 at No. 4. Carr ends the year with nine singles wins and Restrepo reached double-digit wins (10) with her victory.

Kacey Melton took Alyssa Sewell to three sets before falling 6-1, 3-6, 10-2.

Southern Virginia moves on to face No. 1 East seed Averett in the semifinals on Friday at 10 a.m.
