Women's Tennis Goes 2-0 on Saturday

ATLANTA, Ga. -- The Covenant women's tennis team picked up a pair of wins as head coach John Hirte notched his 100th career coaching win on the women's side on Saturday in Atlanta.

Covenant (8-7, 3-0 USA South) opened the day with an 8-1 victory over USA South foe Agnes Scott. In a non-conference match with Hendrix at Oglethorpe, the Scots defeated the Warriors, 6-3.

Hirte, already the winningest coach in program history, collected his 100th career coaching win with the women in the second victory. The 10th-year head coach owns a 100-82 overall record with the women and has 177 total wins between men's and women's teams.

The Scots notched two default points against Agnes Scott (1-8, 1-2 USA South) and opened with a doubles sweep to cruise to the win.

Nicole Restrepo and Lauren Carr paired up at the No. 1 flight in doubles to take an 8-1 win over Brandy Nalyanya and Gor'Nese Turner. At No. 2, Jordan Lancaster and Anna Logan were 8-0 winners over Leilah Lewinson and Katiuska Toral Castillo.

In singles play, Madelyn Savage downed Nalyanya in straight sets 6-0, 6-0 at the top flight. Dani Rappuhn also blanked her opponent as she defeated Caroline Gladstein at No. 5.

Logan and Jess Brown were also winners in singles play. Logan defeated Lewinson 6-3, 6-3 at the No. 3 spot, while Brown took down Toral Castillo 6-3, 6-0 at No. 4.

In the victory over Hendrix, the Scots seized momentum with two doubles wins and then took all four of the final flights in singles to earn the win.

Carr and Restrepo notched their second doubles win of the day as they defeated Hendrix's Taylor Harbin and McKenzie McCready 8-1 at No. 2. Alexis Baker and Rappuhn were 8-4 winners over Emma Self and Grace House at the No. 3 flight. Savage and Bosko nearly made it a sweep, but were defeated by Greer Ayers and Eleanor Burks at the top flight, 8-7(5).

Hendrix took the top two flights in singles play, but the Scots would earn wins in the other four spots to take the victory.

Carr won 6-3, 6-3 over Self at No. 3 and Restrepo was a 6-2, 6-2 winner over McCready at No. 4 as the tandem went undefeated in both of Saturday's matches. Kacey Melton downed House at No. 5 6-2, 6-3 before Baker completed the win with her 6-3, 7-5 victory over Ayden Huckelbury at No. 6.
